Every business needs momentum, yet there’s no shortage of things that can slow you down. That’s why we get so much satisfaction out of leveraging our experience to remove design and engineering obstacles and take the handbrake off your growth.
Over many years we’ve used our technical expertise to solve business problems in a wide range of firms, helping them remove bottlenecks and do more of what matters. We’ve honed our combination of creativity and common sense so we can offer added business value in three main sectors: product design, process, and safety.
We’re not like your old-school consulting engineer—we use state-of-the-art SolidWorks software which allows us to rapidly create and iterate designs so you can discover and invent at the same time. We’re also curious about new possibilities, and SolidWorks lets us test how out-of-the-box ideas could work in the real world through stress testing and computational analysis.
We bring all our experience to generate product design ideas. We’re always thinking about factors like costs, materials, supply chains, and manufacturing processes and locations, and we can render products so you know how they’ll look in the market while you’re still in the design stage.
We took this approach when we worked with innovative NewZealand company, Power-by-Proxi, to help them design a contactless and wireless solution for controlling wind turbines. Working on final design of components, mechanical layout, electrical layout, customer renderings and final construction drawings, we were able to identify and resolve all potential issues prior to final manufacture. Production lines work best when someone’s thought carefully about the big picture. It’s not just about the machines; it starts with getting a deep understanding of what you want to achieve.
By taking a holistic approach and not locking in any assumptions, we can offer you strategic solutions not just technical ones. Do you have the right plant for your objectives? If you want to improve throughput, where are the bottlenecks? Maybe you can speed up the existing equipment, or maybe you need to add new equipment or change your production line design, or even consider whether it would be best to stop your process and use imports from overseas instead.
That’s how we tackled the Thermakraft rebuild. The manufacturer went from number one in its category to zero output after the factory was destroyed by fire. We had it up and running again in three months, and producing a full range of products again in six months, because we took the opportunity to re-think Thermakraft’s approach. That meant we sourced new equipment from Holland and US, and even found people to airfreight it to get production back online as fast as possible. You can read a case study of this project here.
When it comes to safety we’re completely committed to results, which means everyone goes home at the end of the day. But sometimes the manuals don’t match the real world, or you need a solution for a non-standard situation. From cranes to chandeliers, we’ve got the breadth of experience to create a solution you can trust.
As a safety certification engineer we work alongside installers. We also design safety solutions ourselves, especially for out-of-the-box jobs like the time we worked on securing the chandelier for Phantom of the Opera. We’ll visit a site to check out the proposed installation and if it’s something a bit unusual or if extra care is needed, we’ll model the installation in SolidWorks or put it through stress and load tests to make sure it will do the job. We’re qualified by Engineering NZ to inspect every safety situation that businesses might encounter and to help create solutions so they get the certifications they need quickly and cost-effectively.
When we worked on a custom safety solution for a Vestas wind farm, we had to translate between European standards and the actual site conditions in New Zealand to see if the solution would comply with local requirements. We visited the site and reviewed manufacturers’ testing regimes to make a valid and acceptable comparison, and signed it off when we were fully satisfied it would do the job it needed to. We’re all about results, and we get there quicker than others because we have a nimble, deeply experienced team. Unlike the corporates, we don’t get bogged down in bureaucracy and we get straight to real improvements.
So if you want business momentum, why not get in touch? We’d love to help you get progress at the speed of experience.
